Horse racing season in the Bluegrass State is one of the most exciting times of the year. But what happens in the off-season at the tracks? We throw parties! While over at Lauren Chitwood Events we use the spaces to create one-of-a-kind weddings, we also host corporate events in the spaces as well. Check out one we developed for Meeting Professionals International, which represents professional event planners and suppliers in Kentucky, at Keeneland below.

Our very own Lauren Chitwood hosted the experiential event panel for Meeting Professionals International at Keeneland, where she was able to share how we lead our guests and clients to really feel something when they walk into an event and to be enveloped in the environment.

Following the panel, we moved into the Sales Pavilion, a venue perfect for a sophisticated cocktail hour, but we chose to go a more playful route. The aim of the event was to inspire those who attended to try new things, so we used the opportunity to turn a traditional meeting into an engaging team building experience. During this portion of the event, we split the group into teams to participate in the Salsa Challenge.

Each team had the task of creating a unique salsa in 30 minutes. The best part? The turnout was amazing! Participants said they were entertained and had so much fun… something you don’t hear often about a conference or corporate meeting.

The rules of the salsa challenge? No cell phones, 30 minutes, one “Ask the Chef” card, and a few other details, and at the end they had one minute to present it to the judges. Each team was scored on three things: flavor, presentation, and team spirit.

Some opted for fire-roasting their tomatoes to give the flavor of their salsa extra depth. What’s your secret to the perfect salsa?

Overall, planning a team building event like this for a company we respect and at a venue we love so much was a dream. Want us to plan your team building event? Shoot us an email at and we’ll get it all set up.
